Workshop: 2 - 3 days
Seminar: 2 - 3 hours
Program: 1 hour
Learn weave design, not by following a program manual, but by creating your own exciting designs for weaving on 4, 8, or more shafts.
Levels include: Double weave on 4 shafts, block substitution, namedrafting, twills, turned drafts, deflected double weave, lace, jin, network drafting . . . The range of topics is dependent on the pace of participants. Participants should have rudimentary skills in both weaving and computers. For weavers with looms of 4 or more shafts.
Level 1: The focus is not on what weave design programs "do" (though that is covered), but what we can do with them. The step-by-step format allows participants to design drafts and learn how computers enable us to create in ways we never previously envisioned.
Level 2: Introduces more design topics such as interleaving, parallel & network threadings, double weaves, thick 'n thin, lace, and tied threadings & treadlings. Suitable for quick learners or those with experience either in computers or weaving.
Level 3: Extensive exploration of designing liftplans using graphics programs such as Adobe® Photoshop® or Adobe® Photoshop® Elements. Topics include tied weaves, weaving text, and imagery. Of interest to weavers with looms of 16 shafts or more.
User-friendly step-by-step presentations are offered in person for guilds, and conferences, and virtual workshops via live presentations. Software required for any workshop is installed on participants' systems in advance. Detailed instructions are provided prior to the workshop.
One or more hours focused presentations on single topics. Designing gradations, jin, double weave, deflected double weave, tied weaves, network drafting, grid designs . . .
