On January 1, 2019, the author, a musician and songwriter, set out to write in verse, one page a day, for every day of the year. He used a particular blank notebook, limiting each entry to the 23 lines available on the page. Mostly he wrote in the morning, sitting outside on the patio at their home northeast of Tucson, Arizona. They are in that sense meditations, although the author thinks of them more as explorations. In any case they clearly reflect a strong sense of place, and an equal sense of language.
None of the poems consciously refer to each other, so it should be possible to read them in any sequence. Most readers have found, however, that they prefer to read them in sequence, as they often reflect the cycle of the year. And several have chosen to read them one page a day, much as they were written.
